Taiwan: A Strategic Nation
by Nathan Shaw
I love the Taiwanese and have seen Holy Spirit move powerfully in their nation. The last time I visited Taiwan I woke unexpectedly at 5:59am the morning of my flight. God highlighted Psalm 55:9 to me: “Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.” After arriving at Taipei Main Station (Taipei is the capital of Taiwan), I walked over to my hotel. As I was crossing a busy street I looked up and saw the digital clock at the top of a multi-storied building. The time on the clock was 21:21. Directly under the time the temperature was displayed in degrees Celsius—it was 21 degrees. 21 degrees was uncommonly cold for the time of year.
Violence in the City
Psalm 55 is a psalm of David. It is a desperate cry for deliverance from a strong enemy. In verse 9 David cries out: “Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues.” The Hebrew word for “divide” means “distract their counsels; and let their devices be confounded” (Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge). Despite the powerful demonic assignment moving against Taiwan, we can ask God to destroy, distract and confound demonic counsels and devices. The verse continues: “for I have seen violence and strife in the city.” It is easy to perceive that violence and strife could come to Taiwan through foreign invasion, but I believe God was alerting me to a deliberate plan to destabilize the nation through factions within the nation. I believe it is important to pray against violence and strife erupting domestically within Taipei.
False Narratives and False Claims
Why did God show me 21:21? Ezekiel 21:21 says: “For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the road, at the fork of the two roads, to use divination: he shakes the arrows, he consults the images, he looks at the liver.” This verse is about the king of Babylon using divination to make a decision. Assignments of divination usually progress as follows:
- Divination.
- False Narrative.
- False Claim.
Divination calls demonic counsel, divine counsel. The counsel is then formed into a false narrative. Finally, the false narrative makes a false claim on the nation. A contention between two narratives rages over Taiwan. The false narrative is attempting to claim the nation. God has a unique destiny for Taiwan and it is strategically important that we call forth this destiny.
The counter to divination and demonic counsel is divine mandate. Divine mandate can accomplish seemingly impossible tasks. The present times call for leaders that have God’s mandate on them. Taiwan is destined to model strong leadership both politically and within the church. Pray against the assignment of divination and division that seeks to infiltrate the church in Taiwan. Pray that the church will recognize mandate and respond in faith and not fear.
A Small Stone and a Strategic Shield
Taiwan is like the small stone that David used to take Goliath out. The small stone will have a ripple effect that will go around the world. Leadership will come forth from Taiwan that will call forth God’s purposes over the Chinese people. This leadership will also be a model and a marvel for the rest of the world. Taiwan is also like a strategic shield positioned to hold back strong, adversarial forces. Pray that the stone hits the target and that the shield holds. I believe Donald Trump will also play a strategic role concerning Taiwan’s future.
Taiwan has been hidden for a long time, but God has been fashioning the nation as a secret weapon. Taiwan will be drawn from the side-lines into center stage. In Psalm 55:17 David declares: “Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.” The intercessory movement in the nation has heaven’s attention. Daniel chapter 10 describes how Daniel sought God for 21 days. After this he received high level strategic revelation concerning nations, conflicts and destinies. A wave of intercessory prayer will sweep through the church in Taiwan. The church will be a launching pad for strategic revelation and kingdom endeavors. This will cause creativity and ingenuity to go to a new level. Instead of hopelessness and despair people will say, “Truly God has saved the best for last.”
