Forget Me Not: A Vision
by Sue Nesbit
Distractions constantly capture and divert our focus away from the Lord. Many years ago God directed me to do a simple exercise for a set period of time each day. For the duration of the time I was not to utter a single word or make any sound, I was simply to focus on Him. I started by making myself comfortable. As I focused on Jesus I became aware of His presence. After a time my mind began to drift and the awareness of His presence dissipated. I hauled my focus back toward Him and the awareness of His presence returned.
Whenever I focused on myself or thought about anything and everything, the sense of His presence lessened—in fact this would happen even if I got distracted by things about Him. Whenever I focused directly on Him the sense of His presence increased. I completed the exercise for the set amount of time that day, but I discovered the power of the mind, the power of focus and the power of distractions. Distractions direct our minds, steal our focus and rob us of intimacy with Jesus.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2 italics added).
Recently I had a vision. In the vision Jesus stood in front of me, looking directly at me. Fiery love shone through His eyes and glory emanated from His being. The glory enveloped me like a slowly approaching mist, ever so gently saturating me with His love, but also clothing me with holy garments prepared specifically for the present times. As He continued to stand before Me I noticed invitation in His eyes. He was holding a single forget-me-not flower.
Although forget-me-nots are normally blue, this one was white. He was waiting to present it to me as my heavenly Bridegroom. His gesture reminded me not only of my significance to Him, but also of His desire to have greater significance in my life. The forget-me-not flower was an invitation to focus on Him more. David cried out, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits” (Psalm 103:2 italics added). Beloved, the same invitation to “look unto Jesus” and “forget-me-not” is extended to you today. He is lovingly preparing us for the times in which we live.
